About

This dissertation examines the ways of access to public offices in pharaonic Egypt, more precisely since the Old to the New Kingdom. It aims at a better knowledge of the appointment (or removal) systems of officials through the interpretation of texts and the study of iconographic sources. The work summarizes the current state of research on the appointment and describes the general concepts of office and officials with reference to the main sociological theories about the ‘office’. The last two paragraphs delineate the written and iconographic source material about the office transmission with a study of the reward or installation ceremonies. An adaptation of my PhD thesis will be early published in a volume included in a French specialized series about ancient Egypt administration.
